Acme AR Announces Personal Protective Equipment that incorporates augmented reality and artificial intelligence

Denver, Colorado, June 29, 2017, – Acme AR, a leading developer of Augmented Reality hardware and software solutions, announces the availability of Helmut©, a hard hat that includes ear and eye protection, while also incorporating the latest versions of Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential for workers in hazardous environments, but the PPE itself can often contribute to the hazards by limiting the workers’ peripheral vision or their ability to hear sounds that would warn of approaching hazards. Helmut© is designed to provide head, ear, and eye protection superior to nearly all current solutions, while allowing users to remain much more aware of their current surroundings. Through Helmut© they are also able to communicate easily and clearly with their co-workers, even in high-noise environments.

Helmut© provides the following safety elements:

  • Head protection that goes far beyond typical hard hats. Helmut© includes an active fitting mechanism that molds itself snugly but comfortably to your head, and makes it virtually impossible for it to fall off or be knocked off.
  • Active ventilation that pulls air up the face and over the head, to allow sweat to evaporate and keep your head cool.
  • Filters can be added to remove dust and particles in environments where this is necessary.
  • A full face mask provides protection against flying debris for the entire face, not just the eyes.
  • Headphones provide both passive and active noise suppression, while also allowing the wearer to hear conversation or listen to the AI.
  • The internal microphone allows the user to speak to anyone on the internal network, or by phone to anyone remotely, all hands-free. The internal microphone also allows the user to give orders to the AI, who is named Helmut© of course, and which uses the Alexa© technology licensed from Amazon.
  • The external microphone transmits external sounds to the user, but limits the volume to what is safe and comfortable. Please note that noise suppression is active and intelligent, in that the computer cancels routine noise while allowing other sounds to pass through.
  • Bluetooth, WiFi, and 4G wireless communications are available, depending on the work environment, so that the worker is always in communication with his coworkers and with Helmut©.
  • The inside of the face-shield is an Augmented Reality screen, with a focal length set to a comfortable 36 inches. The center part of the shield is typically left clear for the worker to focus on work-related tasks, while the periphery provides environmental awareness.
  • Video cameras are mounted on each side and on the back, and the AI takes the feed from these cameras to provide warnings via AR of people or equipment approaching from outside the natural field of view.
  • Helmut© constantly monitors the well-being and alertness of all users. He can detect impairment caused by drugs, drowsiness, or even heart attack, stroke, or other medical emergencies, and will alert the worker, nearby co-workers, management, and/or emergency services as necessary. This is a feature unique to Helmut© that greatly enhances the safety of users.
  • Helmut© is also optimized for emergency response. If an emergency occurs anywhere in the facility, he will immediately notify all workers and indicate to them, via their AR screen, the safest and quickest evacuation route. And because he knows where every worker is in the facility at every moment, he can confirm to the second when each worker leaves the facility. No more counting heads at assembly points to determine if everyone is accounted for.

While Helmut© is designed primarily to provide protection to workers, Acme AR is also ready to work with you to develop and implement other AR features to enhance your workplace productivity. Acme AR truly feels that Helmut© will enable the capabilities that your workplace needs for the 21st century.
